Our Work
Live & Learn
Live and Learn is a programme of mixed activity sessions for adults with disabilities.
We acknowledge that not all learning needs to be formal and to take place behind a desk in a classroom. We are all learning every day and that’s exactly what Live and Learn is about; focusing on developing confidence, socialising and life skills in a fun and stimulating way without the worry of academic pressures.
Our interaction and support, the wide programme of activities and our friendly environment all help to maximise learning opportunities and to allow individuals to participate and progress at their own pace in a group environment.
Live and Learn offers a variety of practical and fun activities but also offers an awareness of real life situations by having regular interactive discussions and quizzes. We often invite representatives from a cross section of society to be ‘guest speakers’ at our discussions, and we include as many topics of interest as possible from environmental issues through to the role of our emergency services.
We have refurbished and newly equipped an adjoining building to the Activity Centre to accommodate our Live and Learn programme. With its own kitchen, work areas, computer suite and craft room it makes an ideal setting for people to come together to develop new skills, make new friends and above all, have fun. Sessions change regularly and include both indoor and outdoor activities, weather permitting.
Live and Learn sessions take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10.30am till 3.00pm, and are priced at just £20. Lunch and refreshments are available in Browne's cafe.
The popular Wednesday cookery session, priced at £10, starts at 10.30am and lasts an hour to an hour and a half, depending on what is being cooked.
Members pay at least one week in advance on a rolling basis and booking is essential as availability is limited and demand is high.
For more information and to book your place, please contact the Activity Centre's Deputy Manager,
Rob Molineux, on 0191 2678118.
Alternatively, you can download a leaflet for more details.
